The Gathering provided a significant boost to Irish tourism in 2013, attracting an additional 250,000-275,000 overseas visitors and generating approximately €170m for the Exchequer. The Irish Hotels Federation wishes to recognise the success of The Gathering and its potential to drive ongoing engagement with our diaspora.
The Gathering Awards
The Irish Hotels Federation’s Gathering Awards, generously supported by Electric Ireland, will celebrate the success of the Gathering 2013 and support the event organisers and communities who are working together to build on the success of The Gathering.
Five awards in the categories of Sports, Arts & Culture, Family, Festivals and Innovation will be presented at the Irish Hotels Federation’s Annual Conference on Tuesday, 25th February. A bursary of €2,000 will be allocated to each of the winners for use in staging a future event.

Gathering events and their organisers must be nominated by a member of the Irish Hotels Federation. The entry forms must be completed, signed and returned to the Irish Hotels Federation by Monday, 10th February 2014. The Deadline has been extended until close of business on Wednesday 12th February 2014. Please click on the link below to read the Awards’ terms and conditions.

The winners will be announced at the opening of the Irish Hotels Federation Conference in Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim, Co Meath on the morning of Tuesday, 25th February. Representatives of the winning gatherings and the IHF members that nominate the gatherings must be available to collect the awards. Winners will be notified in advance of the conference.
The Judging Process
Submissions will be evaluated by The Gathering Awards Jury (Michael Vaughan, President, Irish Hotels Federation; Tim Fenn, Chief Executive, Irish Hotels Federation; Tony Lenehan, Head of Stakeholder Engagement, Fáilte Ireland; Eamonn McKeon, Chief Executive, Irish Tourist Industry Confederation and Sarah Grennan, Director, Crimson Communications).
Entrants will be judged on the success of their gathering in 2013, the contribution the gathering made to Irish tourism and the local community, and their plans for future events. Emphasis should be placed on how event organisers, communities and the Irish tourism industry can build on the success of The Gathering 2013 and create a lasting legacy for Irish tourism.
