Ireland’s hotel and guesthouse sector is facing reopening costs of almost €60 million as businesses across the country prepare to reopen to guests from Wednesday, 2nd June. A recent Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) industry survey suggests that it will cost businesses approximately €964 per bedroom to reopen – equivalent to over €72,000 for an average 75-bedroom hotel. The IHF is calling for an increase in reopening grants to reflect actual costs.
Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) has welcomed the Taoiseach’s announcement today that indoor dining for non-residents will be reopening as well as international travel for non-essential reasons resuming from 19th July along with the easing of restrictions on guest numbers for weddings. Commenting on the Government’s plan to reopen society and the economy, IHF President Elaina Fitzgerald Kane said: “Today hotels and guesthouses across the country have been given much-needed clarity that will help their business planning for the peak tourism season. This is another important step in the right direction for the tourism and hospitality industry. However, we still have a long road ahead of us,” she said.
The Irish Hotels Federation has welcomed the publication today by Failte Ireland of detailed operational guidelines for hotels and guesthouses. Elaina Fitzgerald Kane, President of the IHF said that the guidelines, which cover operations and facilities, should provide reassurance for guests that they can look forward to an enjoyable, relaxing and safe stay in an Irish hotel or guesthouse from next week. She said excluding children under 12 from the capacity limits for tables dining outdoors was particularly welcome and will be good news for families.
