DIT: Part-Time Hospitality Management Programme

The School of Hospitality Management and Tourism at DIT run a part time evening programme in Hospitality Management. This programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills, for employment as young managers or owners and operators of businesses in the hospitality industry. The Higher Certificate in Hospitality Services Management will also provide a basis for further development through experience, promotion or continuing education.

This programme is suitable for people, who want to gain a qualification in the hospitality industry, are currently working in the hospitality industry, are seeking promotion, or are seeking management positions in the sector. It is also open to mature applicants seeking to develop their existing hospitality businesses. This two-year part-time programme gives graduates an in-depth knowledge and insight into all aspects necessary to manage and run a successful business or to develop a career in the sector. Completion of the programme provides participants with a strong foundation in current management practices and trends. It also helps participants develop the techniques and management skills that are required to manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations and management of a hospitality operation.

This is an ideal opportunity for employers to encourage staff with potential to pursue an education in the sector that will help advance their career and can be used by  employers as a staff development initiative. Organisations may have a member of staff who has potential, even if the organisation is not in a position to fund them.  Attached is some additional information on the programme along with an application form.

Students who pay for themselves can claim tax back and employers who support their staff can also claim tax back on the initiative.

The programme runs over two years, year one is 2 X 12 weeks on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5.30 – 9pm with exams in January and May.

As part of the programme, students can undertake to sit the exams for the National Hygiene Partnership (NHP) Management of Food Hygiene Programme. In addition, the Managing Training and Development Module (Train the Trainer) has been accepted by the NHP as a suitable qualification for the student to be able to deliver Food Safety and HACCP training in the student’s own organisation.

Completed application forms can be returned directly to DIT - detta.melia@dit.ie . DIT are holding interviews throughout the summer and at the beginning of September. The programme is limited to 30 places so a fast response is recommended.
