The Malton Hotel, Killarney has invested €400,000 in a major refurbishment project on their ballroom that has seen The Muckross Suite completely transformed.

A major factor in the decision to upgrade The Muckross Suite was the significant wedding trade seen by the hotel in recent times. Conor Hennigan, General Manager at The Malton said “Originally the ballroom was mainly used for conferences and business events and while this continues to form a very significant part of our business; we also now have a new focus on our very successful wedding market and a more discerning conference client, and so we decided it was time that the room reflected this. Last year alone we hosted 110 events consisting of Gala Banquets, Weddings and Events.”

The upgraded ballroom sees a more flexible offering, with an upmarket backdrop that can be dressed according to needs, ideal for both weddings and corporate events. A sophisticated lighting system has been installed that facilitates colour changes which can change the ambience of the entire room. In addition, new chandeliers have been introduced which add sparkle and glamour to the room – something so many brides insist on!

Full height decorative mirrors, silver metallic wall coverings and silver paint have all been added to the walls to brighten the space, and in the evening light these add sparkle and interest as they reflect the lighting, chandeliers and the general room atmosphere. The new carpet incorporates a pattern bespoke, with the background based on The Malton’s 19th century history, with over layers of fleur de lis.

As part of the refurbishment, a new bar has also been added to the ballroom. This offers a more flexible space, which can be closed off from the room as required. Conor said “The addition to the room allows the bar to be part of the overall space, containing the atmosphere within the overall ballroom, something so many couples look for on their Big Day.”

The €400,000 refurbishment project was led by Nikki O’Donnell of NODA, who was also responsible for the “new look” Reception at The Malton back in 2007. Commenting on the upgrade, Nikki said The new scheme links back to the palette we worked with in the main entrance foyer of the hotel. It provides a luxurious and perfectly neutral backdrop to which any colour can be added, be it lighting, chair covers, logos etc. so it’s ideal to cater for all types of client at The Malton.”
